Overview
A dense, hard  Aoto (青砥) tomo nagura selected for medium-to-pre-finishing slurry generation, micro-bevel refinement, and targeted contrast work. Its fine, hard matrix releases a crisp mud that cleans up scratch patterns without muddying or dulling cladding lines.
Specifications
Type: Natural Japanese Whetstone (JNAT) Tomo Nagura
Origin/Layer: Aoto (青砥)
Weight: 65 g
Dimensions: ~50 mm (L) × 30 mm (W) × (H)25 mm tapering to 5 mm
Shape: Tapered wedge profile with lapped, ready-to-use working face
Estimated Grit Equivalent: ~2,000 – 4,000 synthetic. (breaks down finer as slurry works)
Stamps & Markings
Face Stamp: 中仕上砥 (Nakashiage-to) — Medium-finishing grade whetstone.
End Stamp: 響 (Hibiki) — artisan mark ("Resonance/Echo").
Characteristics & Performance
Tactile Feedback: Crisp and glassy on hard carbon cores; produces immediate cutting slurry when worked against a medium or hard base stone.
Slurry Behavior: Generates a creamy, fast-cutting gray mud that breaks down steadily under pressure for edge polishing and toothy refined sharpness.
Finish: Leaves an even, semi-matte kasumi on soft steel cladding and a clean, scratch-free pre-polish on high-carbon core steel (O1, Shirogami, Aogami).
Recommended Use: Raising pre-finish slurry on hard base stones, standalone finger-stone work for blade face detailing, or micro-bevel refinement on kitchen and field cutlery.
